Tiger Woods etched his name in the golf world as one of the most successful players in history. The American started golfing at a very young age and has been dedicated to the sport for years.
Recently, the PGA of America shared a video of Woods from when he was 14. He was playing at the Junior PGA Championship and reflected on his life as a young golfer, emphasizing how he was more focused on the game and didn’t "go out and party."
"I don't do other things like normal 14-year-olds do. I don't go out and party all that much. I'd rather stay home, you know, watch a lot of golf. Golf sort of made me grow up faster than a normal 14-year-old. I notice it in school. I can focus down a lot faster than the other 14-year-olds can," Tiger Woods said.
Woods was introduced to golf before he was even two years old. He had a remarkable career at the junior level and even as an amateur.
"I didn't have this much attention"- Tiger Woods reflects on his teenage life while comparing it to his son Charlie
This week, Tiger Woods joined the stellar field of the 2024 PNC Championship alongside his 15-year-old son Charlie Woods. The duo were phenomenal in the opening round of the tournament and took the lead.
Following the first round on Saturday, December 21, Woods attended a press conference where he was asked about his life at 15 while comparing it to his son’s. Speaking about the differences, he said it was a "different era" and that he "didn't have this much attention." He further spoke about meeting legendary golfers Jack Nicklaus and Byron Nelson for the first time during his teenage years.
"It's a different time and era. I didn't have this much attention. As you said, I met Jack that day, but also I met Byron Nelson for the first time that day, as well. That was a great day back in those days. I warmed up for Jack, and I had to get back for my high school match that afternoon," Tiger Woods said.
"That's what Charlie is doing. He's playing golf with us, and then playing the high school matches. The type of attention is very different than what I had. We didn't have social media. We didn't have camera phones. We didn't have any of that. It was kind of hearsay amongst neighbors. It was a different time and era."
Team Woods is leading by one shot at the 2024 PNC Championship tied with Team Langer and Team Singh. The event will have its finale on Sunday, December 22.
