"I spent the last two days with him" - Peter Malnati left in tears after playing with Grayson Murray at 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge before his death

Peter Malnati was in tears while talking about Grayson Murray, who died on Saturday morning ahead of the third round of the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge. Murray's sudden demise has left the golf world mourning.

The American golfer teed up at the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge before withdrawing from the competition during the second round on Friday, May 24, citing illness. The next morning, the world learned about his shocking demise.

Following the second round of the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge on Saturday, May 25, Peter Malnati remembered Grayson Murray during an interview. He played in the first two rounds with Murray and wept while talking about the golfer.

"I didn't know Grayson all that well, but I spent the last two days with him," Malnati said (via CBS Sports). "It's funny, we get so worked up out here about a bad break here or a good break there. We're so competitive. We're so competitive out here. We all want to beat each other. Then something like this happens, and you realize, 'We're all just humans.'"
"It's a really hard day because you look at Grayson and you see someone who has visibly, outwardly struggled in the past, and he's been open about it. And you see him get his life back to a place where he's feeling good about things. It's just so sad. I was with him yesterday. He's playing great! His game is so good! He's so good at golf," he added.

The 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge is underway at the Colonial Country Club. Its finale is scheduled for Sunday, May 26.


How did Grayson Murray and Peter Malnati play at the Charles Schwab Challenge 2024?

Grayson Murray and Peter Malnati teed it up at the Charles Schwab Challenge 2024 and had a smooth start at the event. Murray started with a round of 68 on Thursday, May 23.

He started his game on the 10th hole with a bogey but then made a birdie on the next. Murray shot five birdies and three bogeys in the opening round to score 68. However, he struggled with his game in the second round when he shot five bogeys, including three consecutive on the 14th, 15th, and 16th. He withdrew from the competition after playing 16 holes of the second round.

Meanwhile, Peter Malnati started with a round of 72 and shot another round of 69. He also teed it up with Murray on the 10th hole on Thursday. He shot two birdies and four bogeys to score 2 over par 72.

Malnati shot an under-par 1 round when he carded five birdies and four bogeys. The American made the cut at the event and shot two double bogeys, a bogey, and two birdies to score 3-over par 73. At the end of the third round of the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge, Malnati settled in a tie for 67th place.
