Following an incredible win at the 2024 US Open, Bryson DeChambeau went on to put up a poor performance at the Open Championship last week. The LIV Golf star went on to miss the cut by three strokes after failing to adapt to Scotland's tough weather conditions.

Having played the Royal Troon course for the first time, DeChambeau was not able to navigate the links-style course effectively. During this week's LIV Golf Invitational in the United Kingdom, the 30-year-old opened up about his struggle playing links courses internationally. The two-time US Open winner said,

"For me, I learned a lot more than I had in the other three majors. Playing more of American-style golf, even at Augusta, I’ve played there enough and I know how to play those types of golf courses, for the most part. Always can get better in small areas. But the Open Championship has always been kind of a different one for me. I have played well in sunny, dry, normal conditions there, but when it gets really wet and windy and nasty, I’ve always struggled."

Some of the best players in the world faced a challenge that week due to the severe winds and rains in Scotland. DeChambeau, who has been known to heavily rely on playing stock shots on course, was unable to adapt to unforseen circumstances.

In an interview at this week's LIV Golf event, the two-time Major championship winner went on to detail a new approach to conquering links golf courses abroad. DeChambeau told the press,

" I think prep work next year is going to be a big thing for me going into the Open. ... If I can focus on figuring out how to get the wind down and making sure, if it’s a right-to-left wind, not hitting a draw in a 30-mile-an-hour right-to-left wind where it’s going to go 70 yards left. Working on controlling shots, flighting shots, wedge shots and working in windy conditions on putting greens, I feel like I’m going to give myself a decent chance.”

Bryson DeChambeau blamed his equipment for poor show at the 2024 Open Championship

The 2024 Open Championship saw Bryson DeChambeau record his worst start at a Major championship since 2018. Having carded in an opening round score of five over par 76, the American shot four over par the next day to miss the cut by three strokes.

In the past, Bryson DeChambeau has been known to attribute subpar performances to his gear. In a press conference last week, the Crushers GC captain took to blame his equipment yet again. He said,

"It's something equipment-related. The golf ball is - look, I'm not at 190 ball speed, so particularly when I'm hitting driver or 3-wood, those clubs are built for around that speed, that 190 ball speed, and my 3-wood around 180, so colder, firmer conditions, the golf ball is not compressing as much. So it's probably something along those lines."

His caddie, Gregory Bodine, also revealed that DeChambeau is considering making a switch from Titleist's Pro V1x Left Dash golf ball.
