Former U.S. President Donald Trump was a guest on the latest episode of the "Break 50" series on Bryson DeChambeau's YouTube channel. The episode was filmed in early July at the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, New Jersey.
Bedminster is one of several golf clubs owned by Donald Trump. It is a facility ranked among the top 100 in the country, and its membership requires an initial fee of $350,000, according to estimates by The Real Deal.
The club was established in 2004 and has two golf courses. It also has two driving ranges, an indoor practice facility and five putting greens. The club also has a swimming pool, athletic facilities, bars, restaurants, and other amenities.
Bedminster has two courses designed by Tom Fazio. Both courses are par 72, over 7,500 yards each, and rated in the 76s.
Several high-profile tournaments have been played in Bedminster, including the LPGA Tour's 2017 U.S. Women's Open, won by Park Sung-hyun, and the LIV Golf Bedminster in 2022 and 2023, won by Henrik Stenson and Cameron Smith, respectively.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has a special fondness for Bedminster, so much so that after the July 13 assassination attempt, he traveled to his New Jersey estate to rest.
In addition, Trump has stated in the past that he wishes to be buried in Bedminster after his death. To that end, the 78-year-old has obtained a license to build a private cemetery there, where the remains of his first wife, Ivana Trump, already rest.
Donald Trump's relationship with golf
It is well known that Donald Trump is an avid golfer with a single digit handicap. However, his relationship with golf goes far beyond simply enjoying the sport. Trump owns numerous golf courses.
Trump began his golf business in 1999 when he purchased his first golf course, the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. By 2007, Trump owned four golf clubs.
This part of his business grew exponentially during the real estate crisis of 2007-2008. During this time, Trump dedicated himself to buying and remodeling golf properties.
At the time of his election as President of the United States, he owned 17 golf clubs around the world, including the United States and Europe. Among the most famous Trump-owned golf clubs are Bedminster, Doral in Florida, and Turnberry in Scotland.
These and other properties have hosted top-level men's and women's events. It was even slated to host the 2022 PGA Championship, but the event was ultimately moved after the events at the U.S. Capitol in January 2021.
The former U.S. president manages these investments through his company, the Trump Organization. In addition to owning golf clubs, the company also manages some golf facilities owned by others. These include golf courses in Puerto Rico, Dubai, and the United States.
