Charley Hull won her maiden LPGA Tour title at the CME Group Tour Championship in 2016. She was just 20 when she clinched the title and joined the winning circle on the LPGA Tour. She was impressive with her game in the four-day event and finally settled for an overall score of 19-under to win the tournament by two strokes. It was the best score of the event at the time.
However, later Ko Jin Young won the event in 2021 with a better record than Hull, and the best aggregate record of the tournament was recorded in 2023 by Amy Yang, who scored 27-under after four rounds.
Following the tournament, during the press conference in 2016, Hull reflected on her excitement about clinching the trophy at 20. She said (via ASAP Sports):
"Feels pretty good. Yeah, feels great to be a winner on the LPGA Tour. It's wicked to do at 20. It's fun. So feels good to be joining the winners this year. Ariya has had a great year; Lydia; Brooke. It feels good to be now one of the young ones that have won. It feels good."
Charley Hull played the final two rounds of 66 at the CME Group Tour Championship in 2016. She had a good start but struggled in the second round, where she played a round of 70. However, she bounced back and finally clinched the trophy.
When Charley Hull opened up about her performance at the CME Group Tour Championship 2016
Hull teed it up for the final round of the CME Group Tour Championship 2016 on the first hole with a par. However, she quickly made her first birdie on the third hole and then added two more birdies on the front nine.
She played a bogey-free round and added three birdies on the back nine for an impressive final round of 66 to win the event. Speaking of her final-round performance, Hull said (via ASAP Sports):
"Like on the first hole, like every since I played this golf course I just don't like this first tee shot. Doesn't suit my eye. This week I've hit three decent tee shots down there. Today I struck it all right."
"I faded it and the wind caught it. Yeah, I probably didn't strike it amazing to start with, but as the pressure got on the back nine I got into my swing. Kind of helped a little bit having that pressure on me to hit it good," she added.
Charley Hull had won two tournaments on the LPGA Tour since turning pro in 2013. Her second win came in 2022 at the Volunteers of America Classic, where she played four rounds of 67, 64, 71, and 64, registering a one-shot win over Lin Xiyu.
In 2023, she came close to winning her third LPGA Tour event at The Kroger Queen City Championship but lost to a birdie on the second playoff hole to Australian golfer Minjee Lee.
