The LIV golfer, Joaquín Niemann, was born on November 7, 1998. He has a total of 20 amateur wins between 2013 and 2018; he was also the No. 1 amateur golfer (WAGR) for 44 weeks in 2017–18 and the recipient of the 2017 Mark H. McCormack Medal. Besides, he had already won six professional events as an amateur on the Chilean Tour between 2016 and 2018.

The Chilean turned professional in 2018 and earned his PGA Tour card for the season due to his three top-10 finishes in his first five starts, including the Valero Texas Open and Memorial Tournament. His first PGA Tour win came at the 2019 Greenbrier Classic, defeating Tom Hoge by six strokes; he also won the 2022 Genesis Invitational on the tour.

Regardless, Niemann joined the LIV Golf League in 2022 and became captain of the Torque GC team; however, his first LIV Golf win was at the 2024 LIV Golf Mayakoba against Sergio Garcia in a playoff. His most recent and 12th professional win was at the 2024 LIV Golf Jeddah, over Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel by four strokes.

Who is Joaquin Niemann’s caddie?

Joaquin Niemann’s caddie is Gary Matthews as of June 2024.

Niemann and Matthews partnered after the 2020 US Open, when Niemann had Dean Elliot as his caddie, following whom Matthews became his looper. However, they also came together at the 2019 President's Cup and Niemann's victory at the Greenbrier Classic the same year.

Matthews has more than 20 years of experience working with several golfers, including Tim Clark, Sergio Garcia, Trevor Immelman, Anthony Kim, Luke Donald, Charl Schwartzel, Lydia Ko, and Minjee Lee.

Having grown up in South Africa, Matthews' fondest memory is of his time working as Tim Clark's caddie at the 2003 Presidents Cup, winning two of the five matches. That tournament was notable for being a tie with 17 points each; however, the main reason Matthews recalls it is because he got to meet Nelson Mandela.

Matthews went to the University of Arizona and is a skilled player with a handicap of one. A self-confessed foodie, he also likes to keep himself in shape and runs half- and full-marathons on a regular basis.

Since Niemann moved to LIV Golf, where they have had a lot of success thus far, Matthews and Niemann have continued working together. Niemann secured a spot in the 2024 Masters Tournament, where he tied for 22nd place, with the help of two victories in as many weeks, in Mexico and Saudi Arabia, as well as other outstanding finishes.
