John Daly is set to earn his maiden Legends Tour title at the 2024 Staysure PGA Seniors Championship this week at the Trump International Golf Links. The two-time Major championship winner will take on the Scotland course from July 31 to August 4.
The Trump International Golf Links, a $150 million links-style course north of Aberdeen, opened in 2012 amid controversy. Environmentalists and local residents opposed the project due to extensive land alteration.
In the run-up to this week's competition, the 58-year-old Daly openly discussed the course's difficulty. In an interview with the Legends Tour, the 1991 PGA Championship winner said,
"It's hard. It's beautiful. It's great, but it is hard. I'm not even going to carry a driver this week. [I'm] just trying to hit fairways, because if you miss, you're dead. I just love the challenge, I always have, and links is my favourite golf courses. ... This place right here is unbelievable. ... People gotta come play this thing, Its awesome. You know I haven't been playing great so I gotta worry about just trying to get to this weekend. My game hasn't been great, but we've been working hard. The practice facility here is one of the greatest I've ever seen. ... I'll just live right here."
John Daly claims Donald Trump's golf course is superior to St. Andrews
Shortly after withdrawing from the 2024 Open Championship citing a knee injury, John Daly, visited the Trump Turnberry Alisa Golf Club in Scotland. The 1995 Open Champion professed a newfound love for the course, despite his strong affinity for St. Andrews.
In a video shared by NUCLR Golf on X (formerly known as Twitter), John Daly went as far as to say that the Trump Turnberry Alisa Course is far superior to St. Andrews, where he won his second Major championship. He said:
"I'm at Trump Turnberry today. Went out and tried to play a little bit. This place is amazing. It is the best golf course in Scotland, I think. St. Andrews is my baby, but I think I just found my new baby. This thing is unreal. I want to thank Mr. Trump and all the staff here for all the great service they gave us. God bless y'all. Grip it, rip it."
Daly will be teeing off this week at another Trump course in Scotland, the International Golf Links, where he will be joined by fellow celebrity golfer and football legend Gianfranco Zola.
