Journo: Scottie Scheffler could become only golfer to pocket more than PGA commissioner in 2024 if he matches 2023 earnings

Scottie Scheffler dominated the PGA Tour this year and will go down as one of the greatest golfers in history with seven victories this season. The Olympic gold medalist has made a whopping $29,228,357 in official earnings in 19 starts and 16 top-ten finishes.

Sports Illustrated's Bob Harig took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to state a mind-blowing fact. According to the golf writer, Scheffler is the only player to surpass the PGA Tour's commissioner Jay Monahan in earnings.

According to a report, Monahan made over $23 million in earnings, which was confirmed by the PGA Tour's latest-filed tax return. The amount includes a $12.1 million bonus, $2.5 million in estimated post-retirement benefits, and $6.7 million in incentive compensation.

Scheffler earned $21,014,342 last year in earnings on the course and placed first on the Official Money list. Haring stated that assuming Monahan's paycheck remains roughly in the same ballpark as last year, the World No. 1 golfer would be the only player to earn more than the commissioner.

"In 2023 season, Scottie Scheffler made $21,014,342 in official on-course earnings and if numbers are roughly the same for 2024 would be only player to surpass the commissioner with more than $29 million. Xander was second to Scheffler this year with $18 million."
