Korn Ferry Tour's 2024 Visit Knoxville Open honored the passing of Grayson Murray during the final round. Play was suspended for three minutes as players, caddies, and spectators joined in to remember Murray and his legacy with a moment of silence.
The PGA Tour star, who got his start on the Korn Ferry Tour, passed away just a few hours after withdrawing from the 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge with two holes left to play for the day citing an illness.
Grayson Murray had been very open about his struggles with his mental health and his relationship with alcohol following a traumatic motorcycle accident in 2022 prior to the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
Grayson Murray's parents reveal that he committed suicide
Grayson Murray's parents, Eric and Terry Murray, issued a statement via the PGA Tour revealing that Murray took his own life. The two time PGA Tour star stuggled with mental health and alcoholism and was transparent about his battles on the Tour.
The statement reads:
"We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It’s surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It’s a nightmare. We would like to thank the PGA TOUR and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support. Life wasn’t always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now."
Grayson Murray is survived by his parents, Eric and Terry, his sister, Erica, his brother, Cameron, his fiance, Cristina Ritchie, and his nephews.
"We have so many questions that have no answers. But one. Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and – it seems – by many of you who are reading this. He was loved and he will be missed."
