A nearly 70-year-old golf event, the Women's PGA Championship is one of the majors of women's golf and has had several prefixes added over the years due to sponsorship reasons. Since 2015, the event has been known as the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. However, it is not recognized by the Ladies European Tour (LET) as a major.
This new sponsorship brought in an increased purse, which was $2.25 million in 2014 and became $3.5 million in 2015. Further, it also meant that NBC would provide televised coverage. The event was able to take place at prestigious courses across the country owing to the PGA of America's cooperation. In 2024, it was held at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington, in the United States.
Who won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in 2024?
Amy Yang won the 2024 KPMG Women's PGA Championship, her first major win in her 18-year professional career, by three strokes over Jin Young Ko, Lilia Vu, and Miyu Yamashita, who tied for second place. Lexi Thompson tied for ninth place, while Ally Ewing and Lauren Hartlage finished in a tie for fifth. Yang earned $1.56 million of the winner's share of the $10.4 million purse.
At the event, she shot 72 in the last round, with 70 in the first, 68 in the second and 71 in the third, totaling 281, under seven. The win was also her best major finish, and her second-best major finish was at the U.S. Women's Open, where she finished tied for solo second in 2012 and 2015. Her other major finishes are also within the top 10.
