Westwood turned professional in 1993 and has competed for over three decades, winning 44 titles, including 25 on the European Tour (now the DP World Tour). He is a former world No. 1, who reached the top ranking in October 2010 and held it for 22 weeks, becoming the second English golfer to achieve this after Nick Faldo in 1994. Though he has yet to win a major championship, he has recorded several top-three finishes in all four championships. His European Tour wins include two season-ending event victories: the 1997 Volvo Masters and the 2009 Dubai World Championship.
Between 1998 and 2020, Westwood was named European Tour Golfer of the Year four times, won the Order of Merit thrice, and was named Player of the Year twice. He is among the handful of golfers to have won tournaments in five continents. Further, he holds the record (with Nick Faldo) for the most Ryder Cup appearances by a European player, representing Team Europe 11 times between 1998 and 2021. Westwood joined the LIV Golf League in 2022 and is the co-captain of Majesticks GC as of February 2025.
