The stage for the Olympic golf event at the 2024 Paris Olympics is all set, as the men's golf will take center stage this week. The Le Golf National is the venue for this prestigious event starting Thursday, 1st August, while the women's golf will begin next week at the same venue from 8th August.
The play format is 72-hole stroke play, similar to what we see weekly on the PGA Tour. The only difference is golfers will be representing their countries, and there will be no cut line after 36 holes. All the 60 golfers competing will make it to the final day.
Golfers seldom get to represent their country as golf is an individual sport. However, since the inception of golf in the Olympics in 2016, golfers have been able to represent their countries and showcase their talent and skills.
The qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics was based on the OWGR, with top-15 ranked players getting up to a maximum of four golfers from a single country. After the top 15, the top two eligible players per country, as long as that country does not already have at least two players in the top 15.
Most golfers eligible to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics are from the PGA Tour. There are 41 golfers from the PGA Tour, while the rest of the field comes from the DP World Tour, Asian Tour, LIV Golf, and other national tours.
