The Centurion Club, close to Hemel Hempstead, England, hosted the first LIV Golf United Kingdom in June 2022. It was a part of the Greg Norman-led LIV Golf Invitational Series, which was financially supported by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. The event was originally known as LIV Golf Invitational London, which was changed in 2023 to LIV Golf London and again changed in 2024 to be known as LIV Golf UK.
The events at LIV Golf follow an individual and team stroke play format of 54 holes. All rounds begin in a shotgun format; each group of players, selected by their captains, tees off from different holes to complete all 18. A set number of scores are counted for each team until the event concludes.
Who won the LIV Golf United Kingdom in 2024?
The 2024 LIV Golf UK was won by Jon Rahm, defeating Joaquin Niemann, Cameron Smith and Tyrell Hatton by a single stroke, finishing at 200, under 13; and as a team, Legion XII defeated Ripper GC, finishing under 26. Hatton bogeyed the last hole, missing a 6-foot par putt that would have forced him and his captain of Legion XIII into a playoff.
Rahm entered the week ranked second in the season-long rankings and had not finished lower than T-10 since switching to LIV, but he had also not lifted a trophy in over a year. At JCB Golf and Country Club, he shot 4-under 67 to complete the week at 13 under, one shot ahead of Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann, and Hatton.
Also, Rahm was tied with Hatton after bogeying the par-3 17th hole with a three-putt. Hatton, however, made a three-putt on the 54th hole, which allowed Rahm to win for the first time in the LIV Golf League.
In the individual tournament, Rahm took home the $4 million winner's share of the $20 million prize. Caleb Surratt, Kieran Vincent, Rahm, and Hatton earned $3 million for the franchise as the top-finishing team, Legion XIII. Second place went to The Ripper, who got $1.5 million, and third place went to the Crushers, who earned $500,000.
The inaugural event was won by Charl Schwartzel, who finished one shot ahead of Hennie du Plessis among the 48 players in the field that included Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Sergio García, and Kevin Na.
