Lydia Ko was born on April 24, 1997, and spent 85 weeks, between 2015 and 2017, at the top of the Women's World Golf Rankings. At the age of 17, Lydia Ko became the youngest player in professional golf history to hold the top spot. She regained the spot in 2022, marking her 105th week in the top spot.

At the age of 15, Ko became the youngest person to win an LPGA Tour event. At the age of 18, Ko won the Evian Championship in September 2015, establishing her record as the youngest woman to win a major tournament. She followed with another major win next season at the Chevron Championship.

She broke the record for the lowest final round in women's golf major history with a 62 at the 2021 ANA Inspiration, although her closing round of 63 was still the lowest ever. She had already become the youngest player to win two women's major championships when she won the ANA Inspiration in April 2016, her second major title in a row.

Ko made history in November 2022 when she won the $2 million first-place prize at the CME Group Tour Championship. She finished the LPGA Tour season with three victories, winning the Vare Trophy for the lowest scoring average, becoming the leading money winner for the second time in her career, and moving up to the number two spot in the Women's World Golf Rankings.

Who is Lydia Ko’s caddie?

Lydia Ko’s caddie is Paul Cormack as of March 2024.

Paul Cormack attended McLennan Community College, worked as a bartender and postman after graduation, and then pursued a career in professional golf for around 10 years. Still, caddying was how he established himself, and for four years, Cormack caddied for Swedish Anna Nordqvist, who won her third major championship at the 2021 AIG Women's Open.

She posted some sincere words on Instagram for her caddie after that victory: "Couldn't have done this without you @paulhcormack !! You have been there every single day for me the last 2.5+ years of working together and you never doubted me once and believed in me more than I believed in myself."

The association ended in April 2023, despite their mutual success, when Cormack told Nordqvist he would start caddying on the PGA Tour. In the months that followed, he was frequently spotted as Kevin Chappell's looper.

However, he returned to the LPGA Tour around September's Kroger Queen City Championship, this time partnered with Ko. Then, at the first-ever Grant Thornton Invitational, the duo celebrated their first triumph together as members of the winning squad alongside PGA Tour player Jason Day. In 2024, Ko won the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, with Cormack as caddie.

Why did Lydia Ko change from Derek Kistler?

Lydia Ko shocked everyone by announcing early in 2023 that she and her caddie, Derek Kistler, were no longer together, without citing any specific reasons for such a move.

It surprised many because she had been playing at her best for some time in the months before, leading to a two-shot victory over Leona Maguire at the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, where she also reclaimed the top rank in the world rankings.

The Rolex Player of the Year title and the Vare Trophy low-scoring average that accompanied Ko's triumph only strengthened the belief that she was back to her best. However, Ko decided to make the adjustment, and Kistler started caddying for players like Cameron Champ and Lanto Griffin on the PGA Tour.

Ko, in the meantime, resorted to David Jones, a former colleague. The New Zealander won the Aramco Saudi Ladies International to kick off the reunion and gave hope for more wins in the next year.

But things didn't go as planned; immediately after, Ko's form declined, and she finally dropped out of the top 10 in the world. Although it's unclear if that performance convinced Ko to make another move, by the end of 2023, she had Paul Cormack as her looper.
