The Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club's head professional, Michael Block, was born on June 15, 1976. He has played golf since his teenage years and even has a degree in golf course management from the San Diego Golf Academy. Before the latter degree, he played college golf at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and Mississippi State University.
Block tried to pass the PGA Tour Q school in 2007 but failed. Regardless, he has played in more than 30 PGA Tour events and has won the Southern California PGA Player of the Year award nine times from 2012 to 2022. Despite having qualified for two U.S. Opens (in 2007 and 2018) and four PGA Championships (in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2022), he had never made the cut, with his lowest 36-hole score being eight over par.
Regardless, Block has a total of six professional wins, with his first being the 2001 California State Open, then the 2014 PGA Professional National Championship and winning the Southern California PGA Championship four times.

He then missed three strokes in the final two holes to complete the day at even par.
After round 54, Block moved into a tie for eighth place with another even-par 70 in the third round, where he was teamed with Justin Rose. Block shot a hole-in-one at the 15th hole in his final round, sharing the green with Rory McIlroy. With a final score of +1, he tied for 15th place, took home $288,000 in prize money and received an automatic invitation to the 2024 PGA Championship.
