Mike Weir, the winner of the Masters Tournament, is a professional golfer from Canada who was born on May 12, 1970. He's won 14 times in his professional career, eight of them on the PGA Tour. After going professional in 1992, he performed in 20 events as part of the Korn Ferry Tour. In 1997, he was also awarded the Canadian Order of Merit.
He is most recognized for his left-handed golfing style and his victory in the 2003 Masters Tournament. He is the only man from Canada to win a major event. Len Mattiace was defeated by him in a sudden-death playoff after he made a bogey on the opening extra hole. He tied for third place at the U.S. Open that same season.
For more than 110 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) between 2001 and 2005, including a career-high ranking of No. 3 in 2003, Weir, as of April 2024 is ranked No. 1946.
At the 1999 Air Canada Championship, he defeated Fred Funk by two strokes with a total of 266, under 18, to earn his first professional victory. He defeated Lee Westwood to win the WGC-American Express Championship the following season. In a four-way playoff against David Toms, Sergio Garcia, and Ernie Els, he also prevailed in the 2001 Tour Championship.
The 2007 Fry's Electonics Open was his last victory on the PGA Tour, by one stroke over Mark Hensby. He turned 50 in May 2020 and joined the PGA Tour Champions. He won at the Insperity Invitational in May 2021. Other than the five-man 2010 Telus Skins Game, this was his first international victory since 2007.
Mike Weir Caddie
Mike Weir’s caddie is Olly Brett as of April 2024.
Weir had been collaborating with Oilly Brett for a year now, since the 2023 Masters Tournament. Brett earlier caddied for Danielle Kang, 2017 Women’s PGA Championship winner, but they concluded their arrangement in early 2023, which began in 2017.
"We had a great five years and I'm grateful for everything we achieved," Brett said in an interview with Golf Digest. Brett did not elaborate on the reasons behind his and Kang's breakup. Five of Kang's six career LPGA victories came when Englishman Brett was in the bag for both of his Solheim Cup appearances.
Reportedly earlier, Brett, Weir has had experienced caddie Pete Bender on the bag, since 2011. When Weir was recovering from a right elbow injury, their partnership was vital, even though it was first secured only by the PGA Tour's West Coast Swing.
However, Weir's most successful caddie-player relationship was with Brennan Little, whom he worked with from 1999 to 2010, during which he won most of his professional wins, including a major and a WGC.
