Neal Shipley finished tied for 26th place at the 2024 US Open that was played at the Pinehurst Resort and Country Club No. 2 course this week. Having shot a six over par 286 score, all eyes were set on the 23-year-old amateur.
More that 30 members of Neal Shipley's family arrived at the Pinehurst No. 2 course to show their support and watch him with the Low Amateur honors for the second time. Here's what the Ohio State golfer's parents, Neal and Susie Shipley, had to say to the PGA Tour on their son's performance that led him to become the seventh player in history to win the Low Amateur at the US Open and the Masters in the same season:
" It's been such a family activity. We've had so many family members come in over the last couple of days to share in the love and support of Neal and his career. It's been unbelievable ... [Neal Shipley] probably won more new golf fans than any amateur in the history of amateurs ... We had a group of almost 30 people here, friends and family ... He's a great golfer, but he's more importantly, he's a great young man."
Neal Shipley's newest milestone fell on June 16, the same day as Father's Day. The 23-year-old's father went on to express his gratitude to his son and offered him some advice. Here is what he told the PGA Tour about his son on the occasion:
" Thanks for a great Fathers Day present I guess. And just keep being you and keep your feet on the ground, and your head on your shoulders. That's the most important thing."
