Fans on social media have reacted to newly emerged pictures of Bryan Gillis, who was involved in an incident with Scottie Scheffler at the 2024 PGA Championship. The American golfer was arrested by police for allegedly injuring Gillis.
Recently, some new pictures showing the injuries the officer sustained during the incident emerged on social media. The pictures depict his "infamous $80 pants" ripped at the back, as well as the minor injuries to his knee and wrist.
Former ESPN journalist Lachlan McLean shared the pictures on his X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:
"LMPD has released a bunch of previously redacted documents from the Scottie Scheffler arrest. Here's the "injury" to the knee of Detective Bryan Gillis... and the infamous $80 pants."
Fans responded with amusing comments in the post's comment section, with one user claiming the pants could be fixed for just $7.
"My tailor would fix that for $7," wrote a fan.
One fan noted that at least the officer didn't lie, taking a jab at his remark when the case was dismissed. The officer had said, "I received visible injuries to my knees and wrist. I'm going to recover from it, and it will be okay."
"At least he didn’t lie," commented another fan.
"Someone send him a box of Dora the Explorer band-aids and some Neosporin," another social media user wrote.
"Scottie Scheffler must pay for his sins," wrote another fan.
Here are some more fan reactions:
Scottie Scheffler was arrested at the gateway of Valhalla Golf Course on May 17. However, after his mugshot, he was released from jail and later played in the PGA Championship.
He was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, and breaking traffic rules. Following his arrest, Scheffler released a statement on his Instagram page, saying it was "an unfortunate misunderstanding." He wrote (via Courier Journal):
“As I stated previously, this was an unfortunate misunderstanding. I hold no ill will toward Officer Gillis. I wish to put this incident behind me and move on, and I hope he will do the same. Police officers have a difficult job, and I hold them in high regard. This was a severe miscommunication in a chaotic situation."
All the charges against the golfer were dropped on May 29.
Detective Bryan Gillis opens up about incident involving Scottie Scheffler
On May 29, Detective Bryan Gillis released a statement regarding the Scottie Scheffler incident. As the charges were dropped, the officer stated that he and the golfer agreed there was no "ill will" between them.
He also appreciated Scheffler for his calm reaction following the arrest. He said (via the X account of Wave3 News reporter Ward Jolles):
"Mr. Scheffler and I both agree that there will be no ill will over this going forward. Instead of giving a negative public reaction he chose to speak with dignity , humility, and respect. My family and I appreciate that."
Scottie Scheffler has also moved on from the incident and is currently focusing on his game. He is currently playing in the ongoing Memorial Tournament and has taken an impressive three-stroke lead. He is in contention to win his fifth event of the year this week.
