Nelly Korda on being named 2024 Rolex Player of the Year
Nelly Korda dominated the LPGA Tour this season. Having captured six wins in a season, five of them being back-to-back wins, she will go down as one of the greats in the books of golf.
On November 4, she was named the 2024 Rolex Player of the Year with tournaments still left to be played in the season. Korda leads the official world rankings with a whopping 425.23 points while Lilia Vu follows with 293.64 points.
In a press release by the LPGA Tour, Korda said:
“Winning the Rolex Player of the Year means so much to me. This season has had its highs and challenges, and I'm just really grateful for the people around me who have helped me get here. It’s been a team effort, and I’m proud to share this moment with them.”
This title makes her the second consecutive player of American origin to earn the title after Lilia Vu earned the honor in 2023, and the 27th player in history to win the prestigious award. This marks the first time that American players have earned the Rolex Player of the Year honors consecutively since Betsy King and Beth Daniel accomplished the feat in 1993 and 1994.
Korda withdrew from the Asian Swing leg of the LPGA Tour a few weeks ago citing a minor neck injury she sustained while practicing. Following a quick break from competitive golf, the 25-year-old will return to the field for the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship from November 18 to 24 at the Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida.
