Bad weather and a good performance from other golfers couldn't stop Nelly Korda from winning the 2024 Chevron Championship. After four rounds of intense golf action which saw many women do well, Korda was able to win the tournament and etch her name in history.
With her win at the Chevron Championship 2024, Norda has now won her fifth consecutive LPGA title. This feat is something that has only been achieved by two women apart from Korda - Annika Sorenstam and Nancy Lopez. On the men's side, Ben Hogan, Bryan Nelson and Tiger Woods are part of this list too.
Compared to all people on the list, Bryan Nelson has the longest consecutive win streak with 11 wins. This streak is then followed by legendary golfer Tiger Woods who recorded his career-best of seven consecutive wins during his prime years in 2006-07.
Woods also recorded six and five consecutive wins in 99-00 and 07-08, respectively. After Woods, Hogan is the next player to win six consecutive PGA Tours titles, whereas Nancy Lopez and Annika Sorenstam have won five each. This means Nelly Korda is currently tied with the other two women on the list.
If she can maintain form and win another LPGA title to make it six, Korda will become the woman with the most consecutive LPGA title wins.
Nelly Korda expresses her happiness after winning her second Major title
When Nelly Korda won the 2024 Chevron Championship, she did not only express her happiness by jumping into the lake, but she also did the same through words. With her victory at the prestigious tournament, Korda now has two Major titles to her name.
The 25-year-old spoke about the same in the press conference after she won the Chevron Championship. Korda said that the last few weeks have been crazy and after this victory, she can take a breather. She added that she was nervous during one instance, but wanted to win, and it felt amazing to finally get it.
Korda said:
“It's just been a crazy, crazy, crazy couple of weeks, with some really solid golf. I can finally breathe. I was really nervous on that back nine. I really, really wanted this win. It feels amazing to get it."
The young golfer further recalled her first-ever Major win. She added it was a dream come true moment to win two consecutive Majors. She added:
“My first-ever major, competing in a major, was at the U.S. Women's Open at Sebonack, and that was when I dreamt of winning major championships. To have two under my belt now is a dream come true.”
Nelly Korda is indeed reaping the fruit of her hard work. After undergoing surgery for a blood clot in 2022, Korda now seems unstoppable. Her recovery and path to glory will serve as inspiration for many golfers.
