Fans on social media had mixed reactions to Justin Thomas claiming he could have a year like Scottie Scheffler's 2024 season. The American golfer is preparing to play in this week's PGA Tour season opener, The Sentry, in Hawaii. The tournament, featuring only a field of 60 players, will start with its first round on January 2.

Ahead of the event, Justin Thomas expressed confidence in his game for 2025.The Jupiter-based golfer has faced challenges in the past few seasons. He has not won on the PGA Tour since his victory at the PGA Championship in 2022.

However, Thomas believes he could achieve a year as remarkable as Scottie Scheffler's 2024 season in 2025. Notably, Scheffler had an incredible 2024, winning seven PGA Tour events, a gold medal at the Paris Olympics, and the Hero World Challenge.

Recently, Nuclr Golf on X shared Justin Thomas' comments about his expectations for 2025, writing:

"Justin Thomas says he believes he can have a Scottie Scheffler type of year in 2025: “I understand it's not realistic in the percentages and the likeliness of it, it's probably not, but I still fully believe that I can have a year like Scottie just had….”@JTLegion_ “I mean, there's no reason -- I think I would be doing myself a disservice if I didn't think I could at least do that”, Thomas said ahead of the Sentry."

However, fans in the comments section had mixed reactions. Some cheered for Thomas, while others were critical of his statement.

"Go get it, Justin," a fan wrote.
"0 chance," another fan said.

One fan supported Thomas, stating he "has the talent."

"He definitely has the talent. 💯 healthy. We know he can focus. Why not?," another fan wrote.

Meanwhile, another fan was skeptical of his claims.

"No you don’t, JT. If you did fully believe, you wouldn’t cite “not realistic” or “it’s probably not.” I appreciate the attempt. But you don’t fully believe. Therefore, it has no chance," one more fan said.

"Statistically it really wasn't that different of a year" - Justin Thomas reflects on his last season on the PGA Tour

During The Sentry 2025 press conference held on Jan. 1, Justin Thomas reflected on his last season on the PGA Tour. He acknowledged that "statistically," last year wasn't "any different" compared to his previous few seasons.

Speaking about his performance in recent years, Thomas said (via ASAP Sports):

"What's crazy is that statistically it really wasn't that different of a year, last year and the year prior. That's the crazy thing that people don't see or necessarily maybe dissect is that, people see you, it's like, Oh, well this is such a different year than that. It's, like, it really, statistically, like, you look at over the course of a year in rounds, like, it really was not that different."

In 2024, Thomas competed in 20 tournaments and was the runner-up at the Zozo Championship. He secured six top-10 finishes that season. In the 2022-23 season, he competed in 21 tournaments and recorded four top-10 finishes. In the 2021-22 season, Thomas won one event and achieved 10 top-10 finishes.
