Fans on social media have reacted to the US team players getting paid for playing in the Ryder Cup. Recently, the PGA of America released a statement providing an update on the players getting paid for playing the biennial event.
As per the new update, the US team players will be getting around $500,000 each, including $300,000 to charity and $200,000 as a stipend. NUCLR Golf shared the news on its X (formerly Twitter) account, writing:
"JUST IN: It’s official — U.S. Ryder Cup players are set to receive $500,000 payments for their participation in the event, including $300K to a charity of their choice and a $200K stipend. “We are grateful to the many players and captains through the years who have so passionately represented our country and look forward to a memorable 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black”, the PGA of America said in a statement."
Fans jumped to the comments section to share their opinions about the same. Some called it "ridiculous," while others took a jibe at the high pricing of the tickets for the event. Notably, the Ryder Cup has increased the pricing of its tickets for the 2025 edition.
"Ridiculous," one more fan said.
"$1200 per day per ticket," a fan wrote.
Another fan suggested an alternative to payments, while one called it "very bad."
"They should only be paid if they win, otherwise it all goes to charity," one more fan added.
"Very very very bad. This guts the event of its meaning and mythology," a fan wrote.

Ryder Cup payments spark mixed reactions from players
It has long been reported that Ryder Cup players' payments have been a topic of discussion, generating mixed reactions from players. An ex-Ryder Cup captain, who did not reveal his name, opened up about the Ryder Cup payments in an interview with Sports Illustrated. He said:
“This was never intended to get out. This was done with the idea that you should play for your country and not reap financial benefit. We are trying to honor those who came before us and honor the Ryder Cup. It’s given us a lot of great moments in our lives. We’ve just wanted to show support.”
Moreover, Scottie Scheffler also talked about the payments. During a press conference at the 2024 Hero World Challenge, the American golfer said (via Golf Monthly):
"The last few years they've given us some money that we can give to charity, and if someone doesn't want to take the money for themselves or if you want to give to charity, do whatever, but I don't think there's any problem with guys getting paid to play in the Ryder Cup."
The Ryder Cup is a biennial tournament, and the next edition will take place in September 2025 in New York. It features two teams, USA and Europe, with 12 players in each.
