Popular YouTube star Marques Brownlee recently visited the SoFi Center, a newly designed course for Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TGL. He spent some time at the center and took to social media to share his views on the venue.

Brownlee is a well-known tech YouTuber with over 19.7 million subscribers. Besides being a tech enthusiast, he has a deep interest in golf and even played at the Open Invitational 2023 in Royal Liverpool.

On Monday, January 6, Brownlee took to Instagram to share insights about the TGL simulator and other technology used at the SoFi Center arena.

"Turns out they've built this massive indoor facility to create a new and I think pretty awesome looking version of golf, basically like arena golf," he said. "And it's called the TGL. So this time, the screen they're hitting into is 64 feet across by 53 feet tall.
"So it's the size of an apartment building, and it's lit up by 9 overlapping projectors. Don’t ask me the resolution, I don’t actually know this one. But what I do know is hitting into this thing is like hitting into a portal in another dimension or something. It's kind of sick."

He then proceeded to explain how all the shot-making would take place from an area featuring three lies: real grass rough, a real fairway, and real sand.

"When they hit, it gets measured by these launch monitors and adjusts for what type of golf ball it is. It only needs to see about one second of ball flight before immediately projecting the rest of the ball flight on this huge simulator screen with perfect accuracy," he added.

Brownlee also spoke about other features of the TGL, such as the laser projector that indicates the exact spot where the ball should be placed. He gave fans a look at the green with motorized risers, which can be adjusted to create different hills and breaks for unique putting experiences. Further, he showcased how different holes can be created simply by changing the angles of the green and bunkers.

"They put this entire green on a massive turntable so they can spin it around and match every single hole the golfers play with perfect accuracy. So yeah, they can make literally millions of different green combinations with all the adjustments available here," he said.
