2024 Hero World Challenge Thursday Round 1 tee times and pairings explored

The 2024 Hero World Challenge is set to tee off on Thursday, December 5, at the Albany Golf Course in Albany, Bahamas. The event, hosted by Tiger Woods, will feature a stacked 20-man field. The golfers will compete for the $1 million winner’s paycheck from the event’s $5 million prize purse.

The newest edition of the Hero World Challenge will tee off at 10:46 am ET on Thursday with Aaron Rai and Matthieu Pavon on the first tee. The pairing of Brian Harman and Russell Henley will follow suit at 10:57 am ET. They will be followed by Cameron Young and Sepp Straka at 11:08 am ET.

Notably, the event features a list of debutants this weekend. One of them, Ludvig Aberg will tee off at 11:52 am ET alongside Jason Day. Meanwhile, event favorite and defending champion will tee off at 12:14 pm ET. First-timer Sahith Theegala will join him on the first tee. Justin Thomas, who joins the field via event exemption, will take the final tee of the day at 12:25 pm ET with Keegan Bradley.

It is pertinent to note that Scheffler headlines the Hero World Challenge field this weekend. The reigning FedExCup champion enters the competition after a three-month break. The 28-year-old World No. 1 golfer, who won seven from 19 events in the 2024 PGA Tour season, is only followed by World No. 5 Aberg as World No. 2 Xander Schauffele, No. 3 Rory McIlroy and No. 4 Collin Morikawa have opted to sit out.

Interestingly, the event’s field feature eight members of the victorious US Presidents Cup squad including Patrick Cantlay, Theegala, Bradley, Russell Henley, Sam Burns, and Brian Harman. Sungjae Im, Tom Kim and Day form the International team will also tee it up.

Notably, Tony Finau’s exit from the competition has sparked some conversation as the golfer is now being rumored to make a controversial move to LIV Golf.

For the unversed, event host Tiger Woods has announced his decision to not play in the upcoming edition of the Hero World Challenge. The ace golfer, who continues to be in rehab due to his back surgery, will limit his role at the competition.
