Fred Ridley recently announced that the Masters will undergo changes to its qualifications for 2024. Qualifications stayed the same this year amid the LIV Golf-PGA Tour debate, but they're changing for 2024.
Shortly after, Augusta National confirmed the changes. Many speculated that these changes might target LIV Golf after Ridley refused to invite CEO Greg Norman and hasn't been shy about his displeasure with the rebel tour. Nevertheless, the Masters' qualification changes weren't targeted at anything it appears.
Here are the full qualifications for the Masters:
- Masters Tournament champions, all-time
- U.S. Open champions dating back five years
- The Open champions dating back five years
- PGA champions dating back five years
- Winners of the Players Championship dating back three years
- Current Olympic Gold Medalist
- Current U.S. Amateur champion and the runner-up
- Current Amateur champion
- Current Asia-Pacific Amateur champion
- Current Latin America Amateur champion
- Current U.S. Mid-Amateur champion
- Current NCAA D1 individual champion
- The first 12 places in the previous Masters Tournament
- The first four places in the previous U.S. Open Championship
- The first four places in the previous Open Championship
- The first four places in the previous PGA Championship
- Winners of Tour events that award a full-point for the season-ending Tour Championship
- Those qualified for the previous Tour Championship
- Top 50 on the final OWGR for the previous year
- Top 50 of the current year right before the tournament
Only numbers 12 and 18 appear to have undergone any changes, though they are not all that significant. For the most part, the qualifications have remained the same, so most players will still be eligible in the same ways.
