The DP World Tour is back this week with the 2024 Open de Espana. The Spanish Open is set to tee off on Thursday, October 26, at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. The event, which follows the circuit’s flagship BMW PGA Championship, is the first of only five regular tournaments to the season-ending playoffs.
Last week’s event was the third of five Rolex Series tournaments this year. Owing to this, the event had a $9,000,000 prize purse available. However, the Open de Espana will have a limited purse of $3,250,000 up for grabs. It is pertinent to note that the prize sum hasn’t changed from last year’s edition, which was won by Matthieu Pavon.
The golfer winning the DP World Tour title in Madrid will claim $552,500. Meanwhile, the runner-up will bag $357,500 while the third-place player will get $204,750. The fourth-placed golfer will win $162,500, while the player finishing fifth on the final leaderboard will leave with $137,800 in the bank. Notably, the golfer finishing last on the event’s 65-man field will earn $7,800.
Apart from the prize money paycheck, the champion golfer will also bag some valuable Race to Dubai ranking. For the unversed, 5,000 points are available in Spain as players continue the fight to finish in the top 110 in the standings to keep their DP World Tour cards for the upcoming season.
Last year’s champion Pavon’s victory here helped him earn a PGA Tour card for this season.
