2024 Presidents Cup match-picking format
For the unversed, the matchup decisions for the 2024 Presidents Cup’s opening round were made by the two captains on Wednesday evening (September 25). Furyk and Weir, along with their assistant captains, revealed the pairings after a detailed match selection process.
It is pertinent to note that the Presidents Cup uses a “snake draw” format, allowing the defending team’s captain to make the first pick. Having let Furyk take the first call, Weir then selects second and third, allowing the US skipper to go fourth and fifth, and so on. The selection process continues till both sides have all five of their opening day fourball matches filled.
Owing to the limited slots, each team will leave two players sitting out on Thursday. Brian Harman and Max Homa are the two names on the bench for the US team on Thursday while the Internationals have Si Woo Kim and Mackenzie Hughes on the sidelines. Following Day 1’s play, the process begins anew on Thursday evening. Furyk and Wier will make their Friday foursomes picks yet again.
