The 2024 Acciona Spanish Open presented by Madrid will be held from 26 to 29 September at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, Spain. Several elite players have confirmed their participation, reinforcing the traditional quality of the field.

Jon Rahm is leading most of the specialist sites when it comes to his chances of winning the Spanish Open. IMG Arena gives him odds of 14/5 to win, well ahead of second-placed Tyrrell Hatton.

Rahm does, however, carry the uncertainty of his recent health. The Spaniard missed the LIV Golf Team Championship, where his Legion XIII team finished fourth, and the Pro-Am at the Spanish Open due to a bout of flu.

It has not yet been announced whether Rahm will be able to play in the event. This could have a huge impact on the odds of him winning the Spanish Open.

A look at the history of the Spanish Open

The Spanish Open is one of the oldest golf tournaments in the world. It dates back to 1912, when French legend Arnaud Massy won.

The event faced difficulties in its early years, with repeated suspensions. However, the organisers managed to keep it going and it eventually attracted the attention of some of the world's top players.

Players who have had their names inscribed on the trophy include Arnold Palmer, Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer, Nick Faldo and Padraig Harrington. Spanish legend Angel de la Torre won the title a record five times.

Jon Rahm holds the tournament 'aggregate' and 'to par' records (25-under 259), since he won for the third time in 2022. Matthieu Pavon is the defending champion.

Several venues have been used throughout the event's history. Highlights include Real Club de la Puerta de Hierro in Madrid, Real Club de Golf El Prat in Barcelona, Real Club de Golf Sotogrande in Cadiz, Real Club Valderrama and the 2024 venue, Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.
