The 2024 Tour Championship will mark the final tournament of this year's FedEx Cup playoffs. After an exciting season so far, Scottie Scheffler is currently leading the FedEx Cup standings, followed by Xander Schauffele and Hideki Matsuyama.
The Tour Championship will be held from August 29 to September 1 at the East Lake Golf Course in Atlanta, Georgia. Needless to say, Scheffler comes into the tournament as one of the favorites.
Despite withdrawing from the BMW Championship, Matsuyama managed to retain his position in the standings and is another big contender for the win. Keegan Bradley, who won the BMW Championship, has shot up all the way from 50th to 4th in the FedEx Cup rankings.
Scheffler, however, holds a 1,200-point lead over the rest of the field. It will be tough for other golfers to catch him. The likes of Brian Harman, Jason Day, and Si Woo Kim just missed out on the playoffs, finishing right outside the top 30 bubble.
The culmination of the Tour Championship will lead to a distribution of the $100 million prize purse, with the winner getting $25 million and the runner-up getting $12.5 million.
The golfers will tee it up in descending order according to their ranks in the FedEx Cup. The first pair will be Justin Thomas and Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who will tee off at 11:16 am ET. Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele will be the last group, teeing off at 2 pm ET.
Going into the final round, the format of the tournament will slightly change. While the 72 holes of gameplay will still be held, the golfers will get an advantage of a certain amount of strokes depending on their rankings.
Scheffler will get a 10-stroke advantage while Schauffele will get an 8-stroke advantage. Thomas, Bezuidenhout, and Aaron Rai, who are near the bottom of the rankings, will not get any advantage and will enter the tournament with an even score.
