2024 Wyndham Championship weather forecast: Tropical storm Debbie threatens heavy thunderstorms

Weather looks to be a potential issue for the Wyndham Championship this weekend. Though not since the early months of the PGA Tour season, weather has played a significant role in tournaments and their completion this year. With a tropical storm bearing down, that issue may rear its ugly head once more.

The Wyndham is the final tournament of the regular season, but it may not get off without a hitch. Meteorologists are concerned that Tropical storm "Debbie" may be heading for Greensboro, North Carolina.

That's where the course at Sedgefield Country Club is located for the regular season finale. It is expected to bring rain and heavy wind (two things that golf can't be played through) all weekend.

On Thursday, the day everyone tees off for round one, there is a 90% chance of rain, and thunderstorms likely to take place all day with heavy wind. Friday's second round doesn't get much better with an 80% chance of rain. The wind is expected to lighten up, but thunderstorms are still likely.

However, the final two rounds should experience relatively better weather. There's a chance of morning showers on Saturday (40%) and the overall probability of rain falls to 20% for the final round on Sunday. It is expected to be mostly sunny by then to close out the Wyndham Championship.

Barring any unforeseen postponements, the Wyndham Championship is the last tournament of the season. That makes it the final chance for anyone on the fringe to secure a spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
