There is no cut at this event. The second round has concluded play, but all golfers are still in the field. It has a limited field despite being a fall event, so all 78 golfers will take home at least a small portion of the $8.5 million that's at stake.
Right now, after the second round, Nico Echavarria is in the lead. He is two strokes up on Justin Thomas and Taylor Moore. Eric Cole, Seamus Power, C.T. Pan, and Rickie Fowler are not far behind, either.
Thomas capped his second round with a tremendous eagle that drew him closer to the lead. His wife is expecting a baby not long after the golfer ends this tournament and returns home, but he reiterated before the event that his focus would still be on winning a golf tournament.
He said of his impressive final shot via SB Nation:
“Just took a little bit off of a 5-iron and cut it off the left center of the green. That’s what I’m trying to get on the green. I think hitting it in there four feet is a bonus, but that’s the advantage of soft greens and hitting a good shot.”
Thomas and the rest of the field will resume play later tonight EST, which is the morning where the Zozo Championship is being held.
