Team Legion XIII skipper Jon Rahm withdrew from the LIV Golf Dallas Team Championship after experiencing severe flu-like symptoms. John Catlin replaced Rahm in the Legion XIII squad on Saturday to play in the semi-finals of the team championship.
Despite their skipper and crucial player not competing, the Legion XIII won their semi-final clash against Hyflyers. Legion XIII won the match 2-1 as Tyrrell Hatton and Caleb Surratt/Kieren Vincent got two points, while Cameron Tringale got the only point for Hyflyers.
With Rahm missing out on the team championship clash on Saturday, he shared an Instagram story cheering on Legion XIII.
On the back of his consistent performances throughout the season, the $ 218-million worth Jon Rahm won the season-long LIV Golf individual championship. And he will hope Legion XIII can win the team championship this week.
After the match-play event on Saturday in the finals, the format will change on the final day for the LIV Golf Dallas Team Championship. The format on the final day will be an 18-hole stroke play event where the scores of all four golfers from a team will be calculated, and the team with the lowest score will be the winner.
Tyrrell Hatton says Jon Rahm is a "special player"
Tyrrell Hatton has taken on Jon Rahm's role as the leader of the Legion XIII side for the LIV Golf Dallas Team Championship in the latter's absence.
During the post-round press conference, the British golfer said it was apparent Rahm wouldn't play after seeing him on the golf course.
He said,
"Well, I mean, when I woke up this morning, I was under the impression that Jon would be playing today. Arriving to the golf course and seeing him, it was apparent that he just wasn't going to be up to it, which was unfortunate. I think we all kind of wish him well and want him to get back healthy as soon as possible."
He also said that Rahm is a "special player," and it would have been a good thing to have him play.
"I mean, it would have been nice to have him playing today. He's a pretty special player. But ultimately we kind of -- that aside, we still have to go out there and give it our best, and thankfully we were able to advance to tomorrow."
The 29-year-old Spanish golfer has delivered top-notch performances throughout the season. He registered two wins and a top-10 finish in every LIV Golf event. Rahm won the LIV Golf Greenbrier and LIV Golf Chicago, and his lowest finish, T10, came at LIV Golf Singapore and LIV Golf Andalucia.
