"It’s crazy"- Braden Thornberry on winning the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Championship
Thornberry entered the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour Championship ranked 51st in the season standings, outside the top 30. However, his incredible performance at the championship propelled him to 16th position, securing his PGA Tour card.
Speaking about his success, Thornberry said (via Golf Week):
“It’s crazy. This is my I guess fifth year since I turned pro and I’ve played a lot of good golf. I had such a good college career and I was excited to get out in the pro ranks. Like really, it’s not that I struggled with my golf game, it’s like it never quite clicked for some reason at the pro level. It’s just amazing to finally get a win out here. To get a win and to be Tour Bound in the same day is just crazy. I’m sure it hasn’t all hit me yet, but it’s just a crazy day.”
Matt McCarty, who was already leading before the Korn Ferry Tour Championship, maintained his ranking and also earned a PGA Tour card. While most of the golfers in the top 30 before the tournament maintained their positions, there were some notable changes. Braden Thornberry moved into the top 30, while Sam Bennett, who was ranked 30th, slipped to 31st after the season-ending event and missed the PGA Tour card by a few points.
