Justin Thomas didn’t have the best of seasons in 2024. The 31-year-old managed only six top-10 finishes with no wins in 21 starts on the PGA Tour. Despite this, the ace golfer’s confidence remains unshaken as he claimed he could still replicate the success of Scottie Scheffler.
Thomas said he ‘believes’ he can have a ‘Scottie Scheffler type of year’ in 2025. For the unversed, Scheffler had one of the most successful years in golf history in 2024 as he recorded seven wins in 20 starts, including the Masters. The two-time PGA Championship winner admitted to ‘understand it's not realistic in the percentages and the likeliness of it.’
However, the golfer went on to double down on his statement and said he has a ‘lot of faith and capability’ in his game. He stated that he was ‘working on the right things’ to improve his game.
Justin Thomas said ahead of The Sentry 2025 at the Plantation Course at Kapalua on Maui, as quoted by ASAP Sports:
“I still expect the same things. I mean, I understand it's not realistic in the percentages and the likeliness of it, it's probably not, but I still fully believe that I can have a year like Scottie (Scheffler) just had. I mean, there's no reason -- I think I would be doing myself a disservice if I didn't think I could at least do that.
"I mean, I have a lot of faith and capability in my game, and I feel like I'm working on the right things, but it doesn't just happen because you think you can and because you think you deserve it, you have to work harder than everybody else, and you have to do the right things. So, I do think that I'm capable of as much as I am the other years, but that doesn't, like I said, that doesn't mean that it will or it won't happen.”
Justin Thomas dubbed it “just so hard to win” on the PGA Tour. The golfer, explaining his recent form, said he ‘underappreciated’ his wins in the past and was currently working to replicate his past success. It is pertinent to note that Thomas’ last win came at the PGA Championship in 2022, where he beat Will Zalatoris in a playoff.
Justin Thomas’ 2024 PGA Tour season
Justin Thomas had a mixed season with several top finishes, including a T2 at the ZOZO Championship. He also ended the year on a high with a solo 3rd at the Hero World Challenge in Albany. Performances like a T3 at The American Express, T5 at the RBC Heritage and a T8 finish at the PGA Championship highlighted his year. However, he equally struggled on other occasions.
Thomas missed the cuts at four events, including The Masters and at the US Open. The 31-year-old only managed a T14 finish at the season-finale TOUR Championship. This was an improvement after he missed to make it to the FedExCup playoffs in the season before.
