LIV Golf player Bubba Watson will play in the BNI Indonesian Masters, part of the Asian Tour's International Series. This tournament will mark the $40 million net worth golfer's (via Celebrity Net Worth) debut in the series.
The BNI Indonesian Masters will be played at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club from October 31 to November 3. It is the seventh of 10 events on the Asian Tour's International Series schedule for the 2024 season.
The International Series confirmed Bubba Watson's presence at its upcoming event by posting the following text on X (formerly Twitter):
"It’s official. Two-time Major champion and Rangegoats GC Captain Bubba Watson will be teeing up next week at the BNI Indonesian Masters."
It will be Bubba Watson's first appearance on the International Series, but his 9th start on the Asian Tour. His best result on the circuit is a runner-up finish on two occasions (2012 Thailand Golf Championship and 2022 PIF Saudi International).
Confirming his participation in the event, Bubba Watson told the Asian Tour News Service:
"As everyone knows I have really enjoyed playing in tournaments overseas and so I am really excited about playing in Indonesia for the first time...The BNI Indonesian Masters plays a big part in The International Series, which provides a pathway onto the LIV Golf League. I’m a big believer in LIV Golf and I’m proud of the impact it has had on the game of golf worldwide."
Other LIV Golf players competing in the BNI Indonesian Masters include two-time Senior Major champions, Richard Bland and Danny Lee. International Series leader and LIV Golf reserve player John Catlin will also be playing.
Exploring Bubba Watson's 2024 LIV Golf season
Bubba Watson finished the 2024 season ranked 53rd in the LIV Golf Individual standings, placing him in the so-called 'Drop Zone', which means he was relegated and will have to earn his place back as a player in the league.
This comes after an underwhelming season as he recorded only one top-20 finish in 13 individual tournaments played. Watson tied for 15th at the Las Vegas event.
In fact, Watson accumulated only 3.66 points for individual standing, 2.66 points in Las Vegas, and 1 point a week earlier at Mayakoba. In other words, the two-time Masters champion did not earn a single point from February through September.
If Watson wants to regain his spot on the LIV Golf roster, he will have to play in the Promotions Tournament in December. If the rules established last season remain in effect, the top three players in that tournament will earn a spot in the league led by Greg Norman.
If Watson does not qualify for the Promotions Tournament, he'll need a wild card to play the season as an independent player. Otherwise, he would not be eligible to return to the league as a player in 2025.
Waston was the only team captain to be relegated after the 2024 season. As per reports, his status as captain and owner of the RangeGoat GC team will not be affected by his relegation as a player.
