The second round of the 2024 ISPS Handa Australian Open ended with Lucas Herbert carding a low 6-under 66 to take the solo lead after 36 holes. He widened his lead to four strokes over Ryggs Johnston after the second round.
After the second day's play at Melbourne Sandbelt, the cutline was set at 2-under, with 65 players making it to the weekend. Lachlan Barker and Pierre Pineau, who were outside the cutline after Day 1, fired 68 to move inside the cutline.
However, not everyone could recover like Barker and Pineau, and several notable players missed the cut at the Australian Open. In this article, we will look at five popular names who failed to make it to the weekend at Melbourne Sandbelt.
5 popular golfers who missed the cut at the 2024 ISPS Handa Australian Open (men's)
1) Victor Perez
Victor Perez carded 73 in the opening round and needed a good second day at the Australian Open. However, second round 73 didn't help his case and he could only aggregate at 1-over after 36 holes.
2) Geoff Ogilvy
Geoff Ogilvy started strongly with a 69 in the opening round and was in a solid position to make the cut. However, the second day was quite contrasting, as he shot a 76 and eventually missed the weekend.
3) Yannik Paul
Yannik Paul carded 75 on Day 1 and was already quite behind. 71 in the second round didn't help either and he failed to make it to the weekend. The German golfer had missed the cut at the Australian PGA Championship last year as well.
4) Jordan Smith
Jordan Smith shot 70 in the opening round and then carded 72 to aggregate at 1-under.
5) Michael Wright
Michael Wright began the Australian Open week with 3-under 68 but the second day was anti-climatic as he missed the cut 1-under. The Australian golfer played 23 events on the PGA Tour Champions this year and 2 two top tens. The T5 finish at Sanford International was his best result this season.
