The PGA Tour now moves to the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland for the Genesis Scottish Open 2024, which will take place from Thursday, July 11, to July 14. The purse size of the event will be $9 million, with 156 players competing for it. The winner will receive $1,580,000 of the total purse.
With the 2024 season's final Major two weeks away, several golfers who rested after the 2024 Travelers Championship will be teeing off at Scotland.
As the Genesis Scottish Open returns for the sixth time to the Genesis Scottish Open, several big names are not in the field. Seven of the top-20 ranked players are not on the field. World No.1 Scottie Scheffler is one of the biggest names to not be in the field.
Let's take a look at the five top players who are not in action at the Genesis Scottish Open 2024:
5 big-name PGA Tour golfers missing from the Genesis Scottish Open 2024
#1 Scottie Scheffler
After registering another win at the 2024 Travelers Championship, Scottie Scheffler has opted out of the three straight events. He also skipped the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic and the 2024 John Deere Classic. During the Travelers Championship, Scheffler was asked about his upcoming schedule for the year. He said (via Daily Express):
"Yeah. I'm playing The Open, the Olympics and the last three playoff events, and then I think I should be on the President's Cup team. After that, I'll take a break."
Further, he had also talked about being mentally fatigued. He said, during the same press conference,
"I think mentally fatigued. I think with golf, the physical aspect of it is something you can really train for. The mental part is, I would say, more difficult to train for."
Recently, Scheffler updated on Instagram about having a summer vacation at Telluride, Colorado. Scheffler has had an incredible season so far, securing six wins and two runner-up finishes in his past ten starts.
#2 Patrick Cantlay
Patrick Cantlay is another big name who'll miss the field. The World No. 8 withdrew from the 2024 John Deere Classic because of an injury. He had posted on X:
"Out of an abundance of caution and on the advice of my team, I unfortunately have to miss this week’s event."
Seems like he'll be missing another event because of his injury. Fans will be hoping that he makes it to the field for the final Major of the season.
#3 Russell Henley
Russell Henley also doesn't feature in the field for the 2024 Genesis Scottish Open. The World No. 18 last played in the 2024 Travelers Championship and will be teeing off at the Royal Troon.
#4 Keegan Bradley
Keegan Bradley is another top-20 player who'll be skipping the tournament at the Renaissance Club. Like Scheffler and Henley, Bradley last played at the 2024 Travelers Championship.
#5 Tony Finau
Tony Finau isn't going to take part in the Genesis Scottish Open. Notably, the World No. 16 has never teed off at the tournament since turning professional in 2007 and it'll remain so this year as well. The other notable names to miss the tournament will be Sam Burns and Cameron Young.
