At the 2024 RSM Classic, many players stunned experts and oddsmakers with performances that exceeded expectations. In this article, we will highlight five players who outperformed their odds at Sea Island Golf Club.
5 golfers who surpassed their odds at the 2024 RSM Classic
1) Luke Clanton
Thanks to his strong performance this season, amateur Luke Clanton had +3500 odds for the RSM Classic, the eighth-best odds for the week. However, he exceeded expectations and tied for second at 15-under.
This marked Clanton's fourth top-10 finish and second runner-up result in eight starts this season. The 21-year-old amateur golfer missed just one cut this year.
2) Maverick McNealy
Maverick McNealy had +3500 odds but was not among the favorites, given the presence of Ludvig Aberg, Brian Harman, and Denny McCarthy in the field.
McNealy set the tone for the week with a first-round 62 and followed it up with rounds of 70, 66, and 68 to secure his maiden PGA Tour win.
3) Daniel Berger
Daniel Berger was 127th in the FedEx Cup standings and needed a memorable week to save his PGA Tour card. He went 10-under in the final 36 holes to tie for second at 15-under.
Berger, who was +9000 for the RSM Classic, moved to 100th in the FedEx Cup standings after earning his first top-2 finish in over three years.
4) Vince Whaley
Vince Whaley, a +9000 underdog at the Sea Island Golf Club, tied for eighth with a 13-under finish. Interestingly, he held the 54-hole lead but carded a 71, his worst round, on Sunday, November 24.
5) Lee Hodges
Lee Hodges was a +12000 longshot at the RSM Classic and wasn’t expected to finish inside the top 20. However, he fired rounds of 69, 63, 69, and 67 this week to aggregate at 13-under and tie for fifth. This marks his second top-10 finish in the past four starts, as well as of the season.
