The first round of the BMW Championship concluded on Thursday, August 22. The tournament will be played till Sunday, August 25, at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Rock, Colorado.
50 players are competing at the Castle Pines for the top 30 positions in the FedExCup standings who'll advance to the Tour Championship. The final FedExCup playoffs will be played at East Lake Golf Course from August 29 to September 1.
Let's take a look at five golfers projected to advance to the Tour Championship after the first round of the BMW Championship:
5 Golfers to advance to the Tour Championship from the FedEx Cup Bubble after the first round of the BMW Championship
#1 Keegan Bradley
Keegan Bradley was positioned 50th in the FedEx standings after the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind. However, a splendid first round at the Castle Pines Golf Club will give him hope to advance to the Tour Championship.
Bradley scored 6-under 66 in the first round with the help of six birdies. He scored birdies on the 1st, 2nd, 8th, 13th, 14th and 18th holes. He is on the top of the leaderboard and will gain 2000 points and jump from 50th to 4th in the standings if he maintains the lead till Sunday.
#2 Corey Conners
Another player who's poised to make a big jump in the FedEx standings is Corey Conners. The Canadian golfer is tied for third at the BMW Championship. He carded 4-under 68 with help of five birdies on the 1st, 9th, 14th, 15th and 17th holes against a bogey on par-4 13th.
Conners will gain 535 points and will jump from 33rd to 20th if he continues to be at the top of the leaderboard.
#3 Adam Scott
Adam Scott is also tied for third at the BMW Championship. Scott carded 4-under 68 in the first round with birdies on the 2nd, 10th, 12th, 13th and 14th holes against a bogey on par-4 3rd.
Scott is currently positioned 41st and will jump 19 spots to 22nd with the help of the 535 FedEx points he's poised to gain.
In the post-round press conference, talking about his chances, Scott said (via Golfweek):
"I feel like I’ve played on a bubble all year, and unless I’m running away by six shots on Sunday, I'm probably going to be on a bubble all week this week, as well, if I'm playing good."
#4 Alex Noren
Alex Noren is also tied for third with Scott and Conners. He also scored five birdies on the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 14th and 17th holes against a bogey on par-3 7th.
Noren is positioned 45th in the FedEx standings and will jump 22 spots to 23rd if he maintains his performance at Castle Pines. In the post-round press conference, talking about his chances, he said (via Golfweek):
"You've got to finish really high up there to get to next week. I don’t have much to lose. But I really want to get to next week."
#5 Si Woo Kim
Kim was positioned 44th in the FedEx standings after the first of three playoffs i.e., the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Kim carded 3-under 69 in the first round and tied for seventh at the BMW Championship.
On the front nine, he scored four birdies on the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th holes against a bogey on par-4 9th. On the back nine, he scored three birdies on the 10th, 14th and 16th holes against three bogeys on the 12th, 13th and 18th.
Kim will jump 11 spots from 44th to 33rd, which is still not enough to advance to the Tour Championship. However, another good round can make a considerable difference in the FedEx standings.
