The 2024 Black Desert Championship will take place from Thursday, October 10, to Sunday, October 13, at the Black Desert Resort Golf Course in Ivins, Utah. This is the first time in 61 years that the PGA Tour will return to Utah.
The inaugural Black Desert Championship will feature 132 players competing for the purse of $7.6 million. The winner will receive a $1.35 million share and 500 FedEx Fall points.
Since the PGA Fall season events are not important for the top-ranked players, many notable names have skipped this week's event. Here's a look at five big names not competing at the 2024 Black Desert Championship.
5 golfers absent from the 2024 Black Desert Championship
1) Scottie Scheffler
Scottie Scheffler is not playing at the 2024 Black Desert Championship. He was last seen competing at the Presidents Cup, where he earned 3 points in two matches.
2) Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy was in action last week at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. However, he will skip the inaugural Black Desert Championship. He has won three titles this season, including two on the PGA Tour.
3) Tony Finau
Tony Finau is also skipping his home event as he will be with his 12-year-old son, Jraice, who is part of Team Utah at the under-13 PGA Junior League Championship taking place in Frisco, Texas. Tony Finau is the assistant coach of the team. During the Presidents Cup, he said,
"I was under quite a bit of pressure. My son is actually playing in a national event or else I would have really considered taking the week to play."
However, Finau hopes to compete at the Black Desert Championship in the future.
4) Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele is another top-ranked player not in action at the 2024 Black Desert Championship. He was last seen at the FedEx Cup, where he finished T4.
Schauffele has had a remarkable season, winning two majors this year, which ended his two-year title drought. Besides that, he also finished as the joint-highest point scorer for Team USA at the Presidents Cup.
5) Viktor Hovland
Viktor Hovland is also set to skip this week's PGA Tour event. He last played at the Tour Championship, where he tied for 12th.
This season has been quite underwhelming for Hovland, as he recorded only two top-ten finishes. Last year, he claimed three titles, including the FedEx Cup, but this season, he failed to replicate those performance levels.
