Following the Zozo Championship last week and a break this week, the PGA Tour will return with the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship next week. The sixth event of the FedEx Cup Fall will take place from Thursday, November 7, to Sunday, November 10, at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, Mexico.
While last week's event in Japan was a limited field, the World Wide Technology Championship will feature a 144-player field, with participants looking to secure their PGA Tour cards for next season. Only three of the top 50 ranked players are competing this week, and many big names have opted out.
In this article, we will look at five notable players missing from action at El Cardonal.
5 Players missing from the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship
1) Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele was in action last week, but that was his only start of the Fall season as the golfer is set to skip the El Cardonal event next week. He won two major championships this year and rose to No. 2 in the OWGR.
2) Collin Morikawa
After failing to defend his title in Tokyo last week, Collin Morikawa is not planning to compete in the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship. He had a decent season, finishing as the runner-up in the FedEx Cup.
3) Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy will be in action next week, though not on the PGA Tour. He is set to play in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, the first of two playoff events on the DP World Tour. McIlroy won three professional titles this season, including two on the PGA Tour.
4) Sahith Theegala
Sahith Theegala is another name missing from the El Cardonal field. He had an impressive season, missing just four cuts, securing nine top-ten finishes, including two runner-up finishes, and finishing third in the FedEx Cup.
5) Justin Thomas
Justin Thomas is also not playing in the 2024 World Wide Technology Championship. Last week, he came close to ending his PGA Tour win drought but fell one stroke short behind Nico Echavarria at the Zozo Championship.
