TGL's debut season is all set to tee off on January 7, 2024. The much-awaited league will feature top stars along with the league's creators Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in action.
TGL has employed a six-team format, categorized by cities. Baseball icon CC Sabathia is one of the New York Golf Club's partners. He recently had a chat with TGL emcee Roger Steele for the "Off Screen" video segments on social media. Steele asked the former New York Yankees star what the expectations from the New York Golf Club would be.
Sabathia answered that while he doesn't hold any expectations, the city will demand a lot from the team.
"I don't have any expectations for 'em. I think the city has expectations from them to win and be a winner. I mean, that's the only thing,"
The $80M-worth MLB pitcher (via Celebrity Net Worth) is well aware of how big market leagues work and the expectations fans have from their favorite teams. He even mentioned the famous rivarly between the Yankees and the Red Sox.
"What's cool about playing here and I think in these big markets is they hold you accountable. You know what I mean? When I would go home in the offseason, I would be thinking about a game that I am (going to) pitch in April against the Red Sox or you know what I am saying? So they keep you motivated."
He further added:
"So if you are entrenched in this culture and you really care about this city and wanting to win for this city, it will keep you honest. It will keep you sharp."
The New York Golf Club boasts of notable players such as Xander Schauffele, Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, and Cameron Young.
