Aaron Rai always keeps an iron cover in his bag. The English golfer recently revealed the emotional story behind it.
Speaking about his iron covers, Rai revealed that his father always cleaned his golf clubs when he was a kid, and he still follows that.
Aaron Rai said:
"I grew up in very much a working-class family, and golf has always been a very expensive game. I started at the age of 4, and my dad used to pay for the equipment, pay for my membership, my entry fees. And it wasn't money that we really had, to be honest, but he'd always buy me the best clubs.
"When I was about seven or eight, my dad bought me a set of Titleist 690 MBS, and they were like 800-1000 pounds back then, just for a set of clubs for a kid. I cherished them. When we used to go out and practice, he used to clean every single groove afterwards with a pin and baby oil. Although on the PGA Tour, we get given everything that we need. It's more out of principle. The value of not losing perspective of what I have and where I am."
Rai has won six professional events since turning professional in 2012. He primarily competes on the European Tour. He has competed in several PGA Tour events but is yet to win a tournament on the American tour.
He has two European tour victories, one Asian tour victory, and three Challenge Tour victories.
The 28-year-old competed in the Players Championship, which was held from March 9 to March 12. He finished in the 19th position. However, he missed out on the Valspar Championship.
