One of the most anticipated moments for the golf world in 2025 will be the arrival of Happy Gilmore 2. The wait for the sequel has lasted almost 30 years, but now it has an estimated release date.
The writer, producer and star of Happy Gilmore 2, Adam Sandler, has revealed that the production hopes to release the movie in July 2025. Sandler stated that he still can't give certainty about the exact date.
This was part of what Sandler said (via Bunkered):
"I don’t know 100% but I think around July, not July 4th. We’re trying to get it done in time for July, you just never know what’s going to happen... We just want to make sure that it all comes together and keeps it going from start to finish, and that’s the goal."
Adam Sandler also confirmed that golf legend Jack Nicklaus was involved in the filming of Happy Gilmore 2. However, he did not elaborate on the Golden Bear's role.
"Yeah, Jack Nicklaus came by for a couple of days and all these great golfers came by and we did a great scene. In the scene I sit next to Jack, so I got to talk to him, and he was so nice to me."
Other stars that will appear in Happy Gilmore 2
The presence of Jack Nicklaus in Happy Gilmore 2 was revealed a few days ago by Jordan Spieth. According to Spieth, Nicklaus will not be the only golf legend to appear in the movie.
The three-time major champion said in an interview for Sirius XM PGA Tour Radio that in addition to Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Fred Couples, and Corey Pavin will also be featured. As for current stars, he mentioned himself along with Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, Keegan Bradley, and Collin Morikawa.
However, Spieth also clarified that he was unsure how much of the footage they filmed with the golfers would ultimately be used in the movie.
Months earlier, it was revealed that John Daly would also appear in the film. His presence was announced along with that of National Football League (NFL) star Travis Kelce and musicians Eminem and Bad Bunny.
The movie will also feature many of the original cast members. Joining Adam Sandler (as Happy Gilmore) will be Julie Bowen (as Virginia Venit), Christopher McDonald (as Shooter McGavin), Allen Covert (as Otto), Dennis Dugan (as Dough Thompson), and Ben Stiller (as Hal).
Happy Gilmore was released in 1996 and was one of Adam Sandler's first big hits. The film received mixed reviews from critics, but has become a cult film in the golf community.
The movie featured cameos by several celebrities, including Bob Barker (then host of The Price is Right) and Verne Lundquist (renowned golf sportscaster).
