Adam Scott has opted out of two Australian "majors." He will not be competing in the upcoming Australian Open and the Australian PGA Championship.
Scott has regularly played at the two Australian "majors". He had won the Australian Open in 2009 and finished tied for fourth at last year's edition. This year the tournament will be held from November 28 to December 1 at Kingston Heath GC & The Victoria GC in Cheltenham, Victoria.
The 44-year-old finished sixth at the 2023 Fortinet Australian PGA Championship. Scott has won the tournament twice, in 2013 and 2019. This year, the tournament will be played from November 21 to 24 at Royal Queensland Golf Club, Brisbane, Queensland.
Talking about his decision to opt out of the tournaments, Adam Scott said in a statement to Australian Golf Digest (via Fox Sports):
"Throughout my career I have always done my best to come back to Australia to compete in at least some of our great local events. This year will be an exception, as I need to spend some quality time with my family and get some rest," he said.
"I'm delighted to see that there are quality fields for our premier events. I wish all participants the best of luck, and I am sure the tournaments will be very successful. Even though I won’t be there this year I thank all the sponsors for supporting Australian golf," Scott added.
LIV Golf star Cameron Smith will headline both the Australian Open and the Australian PGA Championship. Talking about Scott's withdrawal, he said:
"I spoke to Adam a lot throughout the year, and I think his great play towards the end of the year probably led to a few more events than he wanted to play, and to have some time off is always a good thing."
Adam Scott had a splendid finish to the PGA Tour 2024 season, finishing as the runner-up at the BMW Championship and tied for fourth at the Tour Championship.
