Matt Fitzpatrick is the latest edition of the PGA Tour 2K23 game, a video game series developed and published by Electronic Arts. Following this, he has opened up about what it feels like to be featured in the game.
England’s number one player is one of the star players in the video game, along with Tiger Woods, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Nelly Korda, Lexi Thompson, and others. While receiving this opportunity, Matt Fitzpatrick expressed how special it is to get featured in the game.
Speaking to Golf Monthly at 2K's London headquarters, the Englishman said:
"It’s awesome, yeah growing up playing video games and to be in one myself is pretty special really. I think he'd [12-year-old Matt] be amazed.”
Moreover, the 29-year-old, whose highest score is eight-under in the video game, admits that he always wanted to be featured in the video game.
He continued:
“It’d be very bizarre but yeah I think growing up I always remember playing video games and thinking ‘It’d be amazing if you could be on the game’. You’d always create yourself yeah so to be on there is pretty cool."
Matt Fitzpatrick also claims that growing up, he “always played as Tiger Woods.” Additionally, his favorite course in the new game is Payne Valley, which he characterizes as "pretty wild."
Nevertheless, the talented golfer believes that while playing such video games is quite easy, teeing off on the course is a completely difficult thing.
He added:
"It’s great, playing good in real life is a bit better than in video games. It’s just a lot nicer. I don’t know about that [whether real life golf is easier]. I think if I get hot in the game I could probably regularly shoot under 64 so I can’t do that in real life."
