The announcement of Keegan Bradley as the U.S. team Ryder Cup captain for the 2025 edition of the prestigious tournament shocked the golf world. Following the announcement, SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio hosts Jason Sobel and Michael Collins discussed Keegan Bradley's potential assistant captains for the Ryder Cup on their show.

They mentioned some surprising "out-of-the-box" names, including NBA star Michael Jordan and American sportscaster Nick Saban. The hosts believe the traditional mold has been broken and suggested that some non-golfers could assist Keegan Bradley.

Speaking about the assistant Ryder Cup U.S. team captain, Sobel said:

"I have no problem with the guy like that being in the team room, whether as an official assistant captain or unofficially. Michael Jordan, I would assume that Keegan and MJ played a lot of golf together. They played members of a group. I don't think you will see a presence from MJ officially or unofficially; I have zero problem with that."
"Look we are going outside the box. The box has been broken, we've crushed the box. There is no box anymore," he added.

Notably, Michael Jordan is known for playing golf. He is often spotted on the greens and has played in several unofficial golf tournaments. In 2021, in an interview with another NBA legend, Stephen Curry, Jordan admitted his love for the Ryder Cup and said that he would prefer to play in the tournament in Europe rather than on home soil. He said (via CNN):

"I would imagine if I was playing in the Ryder Cup, I would much rather play in Europe than play at home.”

However, the 2025 edition of the Ryder Cup is slated to take place in the USA. Although the officials have announced the captain, they are yet to reveal the assistant captain.

"I am incredibly honored to accept this opportunity"- Keegan Bradley on becoming the US team Ryder Cup Captain

Keegan Bradley is excited to start preparing for the 2025 edition of the Ryder Cup. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead his team. Bradley released a statement thanking the officials for the opportunity. He said (via The Guardian):

"I am incredibly honored to accept this opportunity to captain the United States team at the 2025 Ryder Cup. I would like to thank the PGA of America Ryder Cup Committee for their trust in me as we embark on this journey to Bethpage Black."
“My passion and appreciation for golf’s greatest team event have never been stronger. The Ryder Cup is unlike any other competition in our sport, and this edition will undoubtedly be particularly special given the rich history and enthusiastic spectators at this iconic course. I look forward to beginning preparations for 2025," he added.

Initially, the position was offered to Tiger Woods. However, the legendary American golfer declined the offer. The 2025 edition of the Ryder Cup will take place at Bethpage Black in New York.

While the US team captain has changed, Luke Donald will once again lead the European Team next year. In 2023, the European Team defeated the U.S. 16½ - 11½ under Donald's guidance.
