AIG Women's Open increases prize purse to $9,500,000, one of the biggest for the 2024 LPGA season

The 2024 AIG Women's Open is set to take place at one of golf's most challenging courses, the Old Course at St. Andrews, from August 22 to 25. The initial prize purse for the event was $9 million and 650 Race to CME Globe points. However, the LPGA Tour has substantially increased the purse with one day to go.

The 2024 AIG Women's Open will now feature a whopping $9.5 million purse prize. The winner of the tournament will be receiving a grand cheque of $1,425,000, a record in the event's 48-year-long history.

The event is the fourth-highest paying event in the LPGA Tour's 2024 season after the KPMG Women's PGA Championship ($10.4 million), US Women's Open ($12 million), and the CME Group Tour Championship ($11 million).

AIG and the R&A first partnered for the Women's Open in 2019 and the tournament had a prize purse of $4.5 million that year, an increase from the $3.25 million purse in 2018. Here's what the CEO of the R&A Martin Slumbers had to say about the announcement regarding the AIG Women's Open's increase in the prize fund (via LPGA Tour):

We greatly appreciate AIG’s support and are proud that they share our goal to elevate the AIG Women’s Open still further and ensure it remains at the pinnacle of the women’s game."
