One of the most promising young golfers on the ATP Tour Akshay Bhatia has a different focus than many other golfers for this year. Playing in the prestigious Ryder Cup would be the dream of many professional United States or European golfers, but not him.
Bhatia told media at the Dubai Desert Classic:
"Not one of my main focuses. Obviously making the team is amazing and important and of course, I want to be on that team, but it's not the focus that I have for this year."
The tournament in the United Arab Emirates city will be played at the Emirates Golf Club's Majlis Course.
Those who have followed Akshay Bhatia and his career would not be surprised as he is known to have a different look at the game always. He is one of those rare golfers who turned professional at the age of 17 and that too without playing collegiate golf. Ever since he has broken into the PGA Tour he has been climbing the rankings steadily. His talent was evident when he was playing in junior tournaments and started getting the attention of many professional golfers across the US.
In 2022 Bhatia achieved a significant feat when he won the Korn Ferry Tour's The Bahamas Great Exuma Classic, which was his first-ever tournament win as a professional golfer.
The PGA Tour journey and future endeavors of Akshay Bhatia
Akshay Bhatia's hard work paid off when he won his first-ever PGA Tour tournament in July 2023 at the Barracuda Championship. The most significant outcome of this victory was that Bhatia secured his PGA Tour card to show his class and ability to perform at the sport's highest level in the United States of America.
Another PGA Tour victory came in the path of Bhatia in 2024 when he won that year's Valero Texas Open. Step by step he is making his presence stronger on the PGA Tour with his improved performances. He has expressed his wish to win Majors many times, and the way he plays golf currently, that wish shouldn't be far from him to get fulfilled.
At his press conference in Dubai, Bhatia also said that he wants to go "global" by playing in different tours across the globe, especially the DP World Tour. Akshay Bhatia has also changed his equipment. He has changed his driver and he is now using the all-new Callaway Elyte driver. During the off-season, he did a good amount of testing on this driver and he finds it "amazing".
