Niklas Norgaard won the 2024 Betfred British Masters at The Belfry with a score of 16 under par. It was the Dane's first win on the DP World Tour and the fourth of his professional career.

His triumph at the Belfry was an emotional one for Norgaard, who even wept after being crowned champion. Speaking to Sky Sports in tears, the Dane said:

"I never thought I was going to be [winner] I almost didn't cry at my wedding, but yeah, this one is, yeah, since I started playing golf when I was 10, this is what I've been dreaming of. And this scene here is just something; so it means the world." [0:05 - 0:20]

Later, during his championship press conference, Norgaard reflected on his career and the significance of this win (via ASAP Sports):

"I've had such a slow career but always becoming a little bit better every year. And then I'm not won on Challenge Tour and I've not won anything here, and then winning this tournament is quite, quite special."

Niklas Norgaard carded rounds of 70, 66, 64 and 72 to win the British Masters. He has had only two top-10 finishes in 21 events on the DP World Tour in the 2024 season.

Who is Niklas Norgaard?

Niklas Norgaard, 32, began playing golf in his native Denmark at the age of 10. He quickly rose to prominence on the amateur circuit, making the Danish national team that competed in the 2014 Eisenhower Trophy and three European Amateur Team Championships.

He began his professional career in 2015 and joined the Nordic Golf League in 2016. He had already won a tournament there as an amateur in 2011 (Willis Masters), but his development as a professional was not as fast as he had hoped.

Norgaard played in the Nordic Golf League for four seasons until 2019, when he won his second tournament at that level (Race to Himmerland) and topped the Order of Merit. This opened the doors to the Challenge Tour for the following season.

He joined the feeder tour to the main European circuit in 2020, but not before winning his third Nordic League title (2020 Esbjerg Open).

Norgaard played on the Challenge Tour for two seasons. In 2021, he had seven top-10 finishes in 23 tournaments, which earned him his DP World Tour card for 2022.

He also struggled to adapt to the top level in Europe. In his rookie season, he played 26 events, missed nine cuts and had only three top 10s. A year later, his results were similar: two top 10s in 29 events (22 missed cuts).

Norgaard has also had a brief stint on the PGA Tour. He played two events in America, both in 2023. He managed to make one cut (Barbasol Championship) where he finished T33.
